Rachel giggled “Yeah, that would be nice.” she snuggled closer to him and grinned when he told her what he was humming. “We seem to have managed to stop that pretending nonsense, haven’t we.” she smiled up at him, planting a kiss on his chin gently. “Thank goodness for it too.” She sighed happily again. She seemed to be doing that a lot today. She’d been so stressed about everything that was going on with Kurt, Blaine, jesse and Sunshine that she hadn’t really relaxed. But it was easy to forget all that nonsense here.
Finn chuckled. “Yeah, we have, I’m glad we have,” he said absentmindedly, staring up at the sky through the trees. He smiled when she kissed his chin. “I wanna take you out somewhere,” he said. “Like, on a real date. Not just a little picnic thing. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love doing this but you deserve more,” he said, tilting his head up a bit so he could she her properly. He gave her a small smile. “What do you say?” They hadn’t been on a proper date since New York, and he didn’t know if he could even call that a date.

Rachel leaned back along with Finn, leaning her head into his chest, inhaling the familiar smell of laundry soap and Old Spice. “We should. I missed seeing you all the time. It sort of made me miss school.” she chuckled slightly. She sighed happily, enjoying the warm and the rise and fall of his chest beneath her cheek and the soft vibrations of him humming. She tried but couldn’t quite pick out the tune. She reached for his hand and played with his fingers. “What are you humming?” she asked?
Finn nodded. “yeah, I’m used to that…I wish I could just see you all the time, minus the school work,” he laughed. He looked down at her when she asked what song he was humming. He had to think for a moment, he guessed he hummed it so much that it had just become like second nature. “Um, Pretending,” he said quietly, referring to the song they sang together at Nationals. “I’m surprised you didn’t realize,” he said and moved a strand of hair out of her face.

Rachel smiled softly as she leaned into Finn’s shoulder and watched him play briefly with the cat. She close her eyes happily. This was how they were supposed to be. None of this lying and cheating and seeing other people while sharing longing looks every time they got a chance. She was happy here, in the sun, with the wonderful boy she waited for and fought for so long. “And so are you.” she whispered, reaching up to ruffle his hair. “This is nice. Just laying here in the sun together. So simple. Perfect.”
Finn chuckled as Rachel played with his hair, leaning back on the blanket, keeping his arms wrapped around his girlfriend. “It is perfect. We should do something like this more often,” he said and tilted her head up so he could smile at her properly. Everything felt right now that he was with her. And he couldn’t say how much he appreciated that she had given him a second chance. He began to hum an old song under his breath, just so the silence wasn’t too long.

Rachel walked up and took Finn’s hand, leaning against his shoulder as they walked to the park. Rachel gently tugged him in the direction of a large spot of shade with occasional dappled sunlight, beneath a large oak tree. She shook out the blanket she brought and laid it out, then patted the ground beside her for Finn to sit down. She let Fanny out of her carrier, and she rolled over onto the grass and squirmed about in the sun. “Come one then, you! Sit with me!” she smiled up at her boyfriend.
Finn followed Rachel to the spot she wanted and watched as she set up the blanket and played with her cat for a moment. All he could think about was how lucky he was to still have her after everything they’d gone through. He laughed and sat down, stretching his legs out in front of him. He wrapped one arm around Rachel and used the other to reach out and pet her cat quickly. “You’re too cute,” he said quietly to Rachel for the second time that day. He soaked up the sun’s warmth for a moment. It was turning out to be a great day.

Rachel nodded emphatically. “That is a-okay with me.” Rachel was so done with her ex it wasn’t even funny. She had tried to be his friend but he incorrigible. Ohter people could deal with him now. Rachel nodded along as Finn talked “I didn’t know your mom couldn’t have children. I suppose that makes a lot of sense though. It’s weird to think of someone like Sunshine having a baby. She’s so small. Though I suppose I’m not much bigger and eventually I want at least one kid.” she laughed and finished off her ice cream. “Do you want to head to the park?”
Finn nodded. “Yeah, so I think it’d be nice for her, to have a kid around the house, someone she could take care of, you know?” He stood up as Rachel finished. He smiled down at her with a small laugh at her statement. “The park sounds fantastic,” he said and took her hand, leading her back outside to his car, going through the same routine before pulling out and driving towards the park. “This should be fun,” he said to himself as they pulled up next to the park. He grabbed the cooler and Rachel’s cat and jumped out of the car, waiting for her to come along, his hand open for her to take.

Rachel winced. “I don’t even know what’s going on with him. he was with Sunshine, then Phoebe while he was still with Sunshine, then he made out with Blaine, all the while whining about missing me. He just keeps hurting people and it makes me angry.” she shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts.”yeah, I heard about that. But I didn’t know Burt and Carole were keeping it. That’s an interesting solution.” She tilted her head contemplatively and licked her ice cream.
Finn shook his head a bit. “Can we not talk about Jesse?” he asked calmly. He hated talking about Jesse as if he were a real human being. He’d hurt Rachel so much in the past, and although they weren’t together when all that happened, he still hated what happened, and that he didn’t help her. Finn nodded. “Well, my mom can’t have any kids or something so they offered to take in Sunshine’s. It would still be hers and stuff, but legally under the care of my mom and Burt.” he thought for a moment, trying to actually make sense of what he said. He laughed as he finished his ice cream cone, watching Rachel until she finished.
